Families, Civil Society and Political Regimes in the 20th Century
A reflection on events in history that have marked the concept of the family and the way it has been portrayed, interweaving major historical events with often little-known private lives.

 

Thursday 27 March, 2014 – Tiziana Serena

The Family Photograph: no humdrum “item”
An exploration of the history of photography reveals the ambiguity and tension lurking behind family portraits and photograhs.

 

Thursday 3 April 2014 – Ottonella Mocellin e Nicola Pellegrini

Includes a chat with two Italian artists whose performances, photography, installations and sound works have focused primarily on interpersonal and family ties.

 

Thursday 10 April 2014 – A special event in collaboration with Festival Middle East Now

Creativity in the Middle East Today:  videos, graphic art, food and design
An introduction to the work of young artists from the UAR, Lebanon and Iran through portraits produced by the Brownbook magazine.

The Family Albun: stories, memories, immagination
Historian Luigi Tomassini explores the objects that have accompanied the visual reconstruction of family memories from the invention of photography to the present day.

 

Thursday 24 April 2014 – Luca Briasco

Interference: the public and private side of the family in contemporary novels
Accused of hiding behind the screen of private life, of traditionalism and of sliding back into the 19th century, the family novel has made a powerful comeback in the literature of the past twenty years, from Roth to Franzen and from Piperno to Ruge.

The Online Smile: from family album to social network
Between portrayal and self-portrayal, the visual identity of the family is changing today from analogue to digital and from family albums to the social networks, in the Web 2.0 era.

 

Thursday 15 May – Mirco Santi, Paolo Simoni

The Bologna Home Movie archive safeguards and promotes a veritable treasure on film comprising hundreds of amateur home movies that recount the history of Italy through private films which were in danger of being lost forever.

 

Thursday 22 May – Luca Giacomelli

Law and the Changing Family:  homosexual couples and the Italian legal system
Lawyer Luca Giacomelli (Rete Lenford) views critical areas and distances in the relationship between society and the law, reflecting on the situation in Italy, its unique differences and its failure to take change on board by comparison with the international context.

Family Mediation
Soaps, series and variety shows:  television has always identified the family not only as its priority audience but also as its main theme, illustrating both change and recurrence over the decades.

 

Thursday 5 June – Special Event

Legami/Bonds
An evening dedicated to the presentation of art projects by students from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, Fondazione Studio Marangoni and LABA Firenze, inspired by their visit to the exhibition.

 

Thursday 12 June – Marco Bracci, Edoardo Tabasso

Sound Standards. The family through pop music
Marking the identity of entire generations, pop music has captured and interpreted the evolution of the family, helping to change society’s perception of “family standards”.

Con la grande mostra dedicata ad Ai Weiwei (23 settembre 2016-22 gennaio 2017) per la prima volta Palazzo Strozzi diventa uno spazio espositivo unitario che comprende facciata, Cortile, Piano Nobile e Strozzina.

L’arte contemporanea esce dalla Strozzina e si espande sia a livello espositivo che di comunicazione, in uno scenario in cui Palazzo Strozzi partecipa attivamente all’avanguardia artistica del nostro tempo.
