Through a selection of videos and an infographic map, this room acts as a space to reflect on the complexity between online relationships and the effects of digital connectedness on our sense of self. Visitors are intended to confront this phenomenon and the implications of how our digital ego will be increasingly affected in the future.
In a world where boundaries of space and time are increasingly questioned, a map is no longer a tool to guide, but rather allows for one to deliberately lose themselves. There are no paths to follow, but discoveries to be made. There are no predefined relationships but flows in flux.
Reflecting on the logic of collective reappropriation and manipulation of online content, four monitors display a sampling of events and characters from the web. The objective is for viewers to reflect, enjoy and allow oneself to be surprised while exploring the strategies and phenomena that characterize the world of online sharing.
If your impression of this room is that you've entered an unfamiliar place, but one that you've also been to many times before, do not worry: you have in fact been a part of this system for a long time. You are therefore kindly asked to NOT turn off your phone, but rather go on Facebook and tag Virtual Identities on your page!
