Workshop for primary school proposed during the exhibition Portraits and Power. People, Politics and Structures (1 October 1st, 2010 – January 23rd, 2011).
The activity is about creating objects and symbols drawn on coloured cardboard and cut out to represent the power of a fictional character.
During the workshop a video projection of images showing powerful figures in history (pharaohs, emperors, queens, tribal leaders, Generals) leads children to observe and reflect symbols that identify a powerful person and allow us to recognize them as such. Students are given a short text that portrays the fictional character of a bizarre and important character with the task of creating a range of accessories that represent his authority! … hats, jewelry and more. With these elements, drawn to scale and then cut out, students otherwise characterize the shapes of neutral figures drawn on the laboratory’s wall.
Activity duration: 1h 30’
