Workshop / Checkpoint Charlie

Checkpoint Charlie

The works and themes of the current exhibitions become the material with which to build dialogue-based visits and laboratory activities for schools. The young participants are asked to express their own point of view in a continuous dialogue with the artists’ works, the teachers and the mediators of the CCC Strozzina.

For classes of middle school
Checkpoint Charlie (guided tour + workshop )

Travelling is one of the best tools to expand our knowledge and our ability to interact with diversity. Often, however, it is not so easy to arrange a trip: whether it is close by or on the other side of the world, one must learn about the chosen destination, its past and present history, the customs and practices of its inhabitants. And even when we think we are ready to go, we may find that some countries are not accessible because they are living through a crisis caused by a state of war, while in others it is difficult to stay for many days because local laws do not allow it.

During the activity, the students will simulate a trip to the exhibition of the CCC Strozzina which will be divided into as many “territories” as there are exhibition rooms.  Each room will be entrusted to a group of students who will have to analyze the work of art exhibited there and imagine a territory to which this might refer. In the second phase of the activity, the students will have to regulate the access of their classmates to their own room, like a real customs agent using stamps and passports, and at the same time explain the characteristics of their own “territory” along with those of the work of art in the room.

The objectives of the activity are the following:

-        The analysis of the concepts of territory, borders and diversity in today’s world;

-        The analysis and the use of a work of contemporary art as a starting point for a relational activity;

-        The realization of a creative work organized cooperatively.

2 hours long, € 6.00 per student (ticket to the exhibition included).
