Workshop for the middle school, realized during Worlds on Video. International Video Art exhibition (September 19th – November 2nd 2008). The workshop is inspired by the video Dancing in Peckam by Gillian Wearing and proposes an activity that involves children in an experience of freedom and expression, through bodily movement and music.

Dancing in Peckam by Gillian Wearing is the starting point to create a performance in which to experience with the expressive power of the body. Exercises with music let children become familiar with the empty space of the room, they can become aware of their moving body as they feel free to dance with their companions, without inhibition. 
At the end of the activity children watch their performance through video recording, without sound. Looking at the pictures, students go through the states of mind they had in the performance: from embarrassment to their involvement with the music, until being impressed by seeing a body moving in space without music.

Practice to recognize their own bodily expression becomes a way to listen to oneself and others.
