Is the majority always right?

Is the majority always right?

Declining Democracy aims to create a platform for critical reflection and debate to be experienced through different kind of experiences.
On entering the exhibition every visitor will receive a ballot and will be involved in a special referendum.

The referendum is an instrument of direct democracy that allows citizens to act on laws relevant to society as a whole, replacing the political class in making a decision for the community.
In Italy the referendum was a vehicle for large civil battles, the right to divorce and abortion to the most recent decisions against nuclear power and in favor of public water. At the same time it was the instrument with which, again in Italy, calling on voters to abstain, he accepted the restrictive new law on assisted procreation. Even a referendum in France and the Netherlands rejected the Lisbon Treaty on the European Constitution, while Californianas revoked the possibility of marriage for homosexual couples, that a law had guaranteed.
Faced with questions from a moral value or importance to the community, voters are faced with a choice only between YES or  NO, by influencing, through their personal opinion, a decision will be valid for all .

The question of the referendum is  Is the majority always right?” and asks the visitors to reflect on one of the key principles of democracy, the power of the majority.

Our website and our Facebook page will be updated weekly with the results, also opening a wider space to discuss these issues.

Updated vote results, until January 13, 2012.
