Courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi – free admission
STELLA BURNS (country/blues)
Stella Burns uses new instruments to experiment with new sounds: the banjo, the mandolin, the autoharp, the cigar box guitar, vintage keyboards and microphones to create effects from the ‘fifties, ‘sixties and ‘seventies. A blast from the past in an aesthetic sense but also in a very real “sound” sense. Stella Burns’ most loyal companion is an American “Harmony” guitar, a cheap version developed for students in the ‘sixties and ‘seventies. Her music is influenced by, among others, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Calexico’s The Black Light, early blues, Get Well Soon’s cover version of Bowie’s I’m Deranged, Velvet Underground, Anna Calvi, Vincent Gallo, the music and movies of David Lynch, and Dirty Beaches.
