Starting 16 October 2014, the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi will be launching PALAZZO STROZZI CONTEMPORARY, a new programme devoted to contemporary art devised by the CCC Strozzina. The project comprises four site-specific events in Palazzo Strozzi’s Courtyard.

Eleven contemporary artists investigate the theme of family: its dynamics, its representations and what hides behind them, in a collective investigation into those bonds, symbols and phenomena that continue to define this concept today.

The exhibition will be showcasing work by such international artists as Kader Attia, Sigalit Landau, Richard Mosse, Paulo Nazareth, Oliver Ressler & Zanny Begg, encouraging us to rethink our notion of territory in a contemporary world characterised increasingly by the obsolescence of such concepts as the nation state and borders, yet at the same time by a renewed interest in the individual in relation to a specific area or community.

On the occasion of the Notte Bianca Firenze 2013, the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi presents a new work by Italian artist Federico Gori, Di fragilità e potenza (On Fragility and Power). This installation focuses on a large suspended tree, a cork oak over seven metres tall, rising in the courtyard.

The exhibition presents work by eight contemporary artists for exploring a new relationship with reality in search of an aesthetic experience conceived as a fundamental part of the individual himself, but also a life practice, an approach to reality, even occasionally only utopian. Experiencing beauty means experiencing daily life differently, experiencing it to the point where it causes us to look at it “from closer up” and prompts an emotional response in us which, while completely individual, can become the tool for forging a new relationship both with others and with the world.

Body, memory, and identity: this exhibition presents work by Francis Bacon and five contemporary artists who examine—through painting, photography, installation and video—the existential state of contemporary society’s collective mindset, exploring the questions man asks himself in relationship to his own interior being and the outside world.

On the occasion of Florence’s White Night on 30 April 2012, the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi presents a new site-specific installation by Italian artist, Loris Cecchini, consisting of a group of large suspended sculptural shapes that will create a new dialogue with the perfect geometry of the Palazzo Strozzi, a symbol of the Florentine Renaissance.
