Installation and performanc for the Palazzo Strozzi Courtyard
Curated by Alessio Bertini
The courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi, a transitional space which opens itself equally to moments of reflection and interaction, has become a locus of cross-contamination between different artistic languages. The artistic collective Kinkaleri transforms the space into a new and original stage with their performance piece Everyone Gets Lighter | All!, second moment of the programme Palazzo Strozzi Contemporaneo after the installation A chi non piace guardare il cielo? by Franco Menicagli.
In the performance the dancer uses a codified set of body movements, each corresponding to a letter of the alphabet. Placed in sequence, the movements become a choreographed poem, in which the expressiveness of the word merges with that of the body, and poetry becomes dance. Between performances, a sound and light installation conjures the action of the performance, involving visitors who pass through the courtyard in the piece and inviting them to consider themselves potential performers, capable of adopting the gestural language invented by Kinkaleri. A brochure illustrating the movements used in the performance is in distribution in the courtyard to illustrate and disseminate Kinkaleri’s alphabet. The brochure also contains the words of the poems interpreted in dance during the performance, as well as a calendar of the performances.
