| Built with simple materials such as aluminium and plastic, this work of art was created expressly for the environment in which it is located. Interacting dynamically with space, almost as though they were growing spontaneously out of the architecture, Alice Cattaneo's structures are both fragile and incisive at the same time. Their shape is astonishing in its ability to create a new space with minimal intervention, and indeed its simplicity is merely skin-deep. Always using the temporary nature of a context to advantage, Cattaneo creates ephemeral architecture: anti-monuments whose value lies not in themselves so much as in their ability to create new associations and impressions in the places for which they are designed. |
